LOGIE DURNO WEDDING PHOTOGRAPHY | PITCAPLE, ABERDEEN, SCOTLAND

I couldn’t wait to meet Amy & Scott, like seriously couldn’t wait! We’d chatted for ages since Amy booked me what seemed like forever ago, and I was seriously excited to make the drive up to Scotland to enjoy their day with them!

I love Scotland, the scenery, the people, the hospitality and the odd dram of whiskey is never refused! I think the big draw for me is it reminds me of Wales, a place I grew up in and have fond memories of.

Amy & Scott’s wedding sounded right up my street from the get go, a village hall, a bunch of people who loved a party and not forgetting an incredibly good live band (who I found out were from Manchester - jees we could have car shared if I’d have realized). Shout out THE STRING BEANS

Anyway, I digress….I popped in to see Amy and the gang the day before, a scene of relaxed, very organized and friendly busying about, they were transforming Logie Durno Village Hall into a wonderfully personalized wedding venue and boy did it look great! Shout out TRINA’S ART & FLOWERS

A huge part of photographing a wedding (for me anyway) is fitting in and being accepted by everyone, taking pretty pictures is easy but taking pictures of people during their most unguarded moments is more of a refined skill that comes from acceptance and people not feeling like they have a photographer there at all. It’s an element of my wedding photography I’ve worked extremely hard on and something I find invaluable to the way I work. I was immediately welcomed with open arms, big hugs and a whirlwind introduction to everyone - I felt at home immediately!

I spent the following day surrounded by people who made me feel like one of the family, it was a truly beautiful day and one I’ll remember fondly for years.

Now I know I do go on a lot about fitting in, being like a guest and not a photographer and the importance of that ethos, and a very good example of just how un-photographer like I am at a wedding was during the wedding breakfast when I was sat enjoying the speeches with Amy & Scotts friends, during the conversation the usual “How do you know Amy & Scott"?” question arose which my reply was “I worked on a cattle farm with Scott breeding cows years ago, and we’ve been friends ever since”, a cover story Amy’s Mum and I came up with in the morning as a bit of a joke, my cover was only blown when Scott mentioned me in his speech as being their undercover photographer haha! I got a fair bit of ribbing from my fellow table guests for being a naughty little fibber but it was lovely to get a mention in a grooms speech and for once I was a bit lost for words (if you know me you’ll know that doesn’t really happen)! I guess that shows how good I am at fitting in!

A REALLY FUN SCOTTISH WEDDING IN LOGIE DURNO VILLAGE HALL.

I try and capture each and every wedding from a couples perspective, while aesthetically pleasing pictures are nice I really think that the true memories are held in the honest goings-on of a wedding day, the memories that are relevant to a particular couple, not a general audience. The pictures below (and in the slideshow) show a small part of a whole story, they spark recollection of a day, of feelings at that particular time and as such are a very personal thing for each couple. I dearly hope for each couple they bring smiles and memories and a remembering of how they felt on their day. Absolutely nothing was posed or staged in these pictures, they are simply things as they happen from the perspective of someone who was there experiencing everything right alongside Amy & Scott without intruding or taking over any part of the day.

Apologies for the number of images, I really struggled to trim the blog gallery down because there were so many memorable moments for me.

There were so many memorable moments for me from this wedding, I loved every second of it (all 18 hours of it), we laughed, hugged, danced, ate, drank and partied together, I still smile when I watch the slide show and consider myself absolutely blessed that couples like Amy & Scott find me, invite me into their lives and make my job not seem like a job at all!

As usual, I was there throughout the day, night, the band were sooooo good, the after-party was soooooo good and I was having a heck of a time!
